Chronology of Diplomatic Relations
Diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Kingdom of Spain were established on 9 July 1992.
The Embassy of Georgia to the Kingdom of Spain was opened in 2004.
In 2021 the consulate of Georgia to Barcelona was granted the status of Consulate General.
The Kingdom of Spain began to extend its diplomatic presence to Georgia in 1997, including via the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain to the Republic of Turkey since 2014.
In 2015 office of the Embassy of Spain headed by the charge d'Affaires was launched in Tbilisi.
In 2022 Georgia and Kingdom of Spain celebrated the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
In 2023 during the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Georgia was granted the EU candidate status.
